Be part of history! Support Detroit’s first park recognizing Jewish history and community.
REFLECTION PARK is Mezuzah's commitment to NW Goldberg
Mezuzah’s mission is to prioritize and mobilize Jewish life in Detroit, with a vision of creating a walkable, equitable, and vibrant Jewish community in NW Goldberg. NW Goldberg is rich with history, ranging from larger landmarks like the King Solomon Baptist Church and Olympia Stadium, to people and places of cultural significance, like Curtis Jones and White's Records. The neighborhood is a historically Black and Jewish community, which is one of the reasons why we planted our roots in NW Goldberg.
As newcomers in the neighborhood, we feel it's important to contribute to the fabric of the neighborhood in an intentional way.
With your support, we will create a public space that encapsulates the past, highlights the present, and helps residents and visitors envision the future of their communities.
What will REFLECTION PARK look like?
REFLECTION PARK will create opportunities for discussion, education, and introspection. The park is designed with three sections: past, present, and future.
Past: Highlighting various historical pieces of the neighborhood, including people, places, buildings, significant moments, and cultural histories, we will include standing plaques, encased artifacts, and photos.
Present: Highlighting the present, we will include the work of NW Goldberg Cares, stories and anecdotes from current residents, and other community input that helps us tell the story of NW Goldberg in the 21st century.
Future: This section is designed to be conceptual, providing the space for discussions on community building. When programmed, we'll ask questions like How do you ensure a neighborhood is designed for all? and What do you consider the most important aspects of community? When not programmed, this space will be reserved for seating in the park.
Funds raised through this campaign will help us complete the park with :
Walking paths and seating areas
Landscaping, including flower beds, grass, and trees
Historical signage and artifact cases
Storage shed, tables, and chairs
Fencing
Programming for residents and groups visiting from beyond NW Goldberg
Regular programming of the space will include:
Sitting, reading, community meetings, and more
Self-guided tours
Monthly Stroller Clubs
Destination tours with outside partners
With your help, we can turn memories, stories, and visions into a permanent neighborhood space.
Every Dollar Counts
We appreciate your support in this project, whether it be financial contributions or simply sharing this campaign on social media, with friends, and with family. Giving counts at every level!
When we hit our goal of $50,000, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) will match that, which will immediately double your dollars and impact!
